Beyond the immediate area around St. Ives, there is a great deal to see and do during your stay. Below are just some of the many holiday attractions to be found in Cornwall within an easy journey of St. Ives.
Flambards
This popular family theme park is located on the outskirts of Helston. Flambards offers rides, entertainment and exhibitions to entertain and occupy the whole family. Flambards has a selection of rides specially designed with younger visitors in mind, allowing them to experience "mini" versions of popular rides and a soft indoor play area. Elsewhere, go-carts, "The Hornet" and such rides as the "Thunderbolt" and "Extreme Force" provide thrills for the most hardened of adrenalin junkies! In season there are regular live shows and of course the famous "Victorian Village" exhibition, the "Britain in the Blitz" exhibition and the world of Gus Honeybun.
For those who don't mind a soaking, the log flume is a popular attraction! Flambards is open for much of the year. For full details, visit the Flambards Website.
Land's End
Is not just a "place" but a full day out! There are many attractions to be found at Land's End and you can either choose which ones to visit or get an all-inclusive ticket. For fans of Doctor Who, the Doctor Who "up close" exhibition is surely a must-see attraction featuring many props and costumes from the series over the years including the most recent episodes.
The Last Labyrinth is a multi sensory theatre which delves into some of the history and folklore of the landscape. There are several additional exhibitions and film presentations to be found and, of course, the amazing coastline of Land's End itself.
For details, visit the Land's End Website.
Eden Project
This iconic attraction close to St Austell is well within reach for a day trip from Ayr Holiday Park. The Eden Project has become the symbol of all that is modern and innovative in Cornwall. It also leads the way in education about sustainability, culture and climate change across the world.
The Eden Project itself never fails to impress the visitor, both with its sheer scale and the unique nature of this world class attraction. The Biomes allow you to enter two completely different environments from the humid tropics to the arid Mediterranean.
The Eden Project attracts visitors for all manner of reasons. Anyone with an interest in the fauna of the world will find the Eden Project an amazing experience. The variety of plants that surround you is an amazing visual spectacle but it is also hugely informative. Visitors see exactly how some of our most popular food is grown, from rice to chocolate.
As an experience, visiting the world's largest greenhouse is certainly memorable! Just for sheer scale and atmosphere, Eden is a unique world attraction and the vast majority of visitors to Cornwall take time to visit it. Eden is constantly changing and evolving. The new education centre "The Core" is the moist recent addition to Eden. At most points during the year you can combine a visit with entertainment in the arena. Eden is an increasingly popular performance venue with world class acts increasingly putting Eden on their tour schedule. Eden also offers something extra in the run up to Christmas making it a magical place to visit - particularly once the arena has been converted to an ice rink.
National Maritime Museum, Cornwall
Located on Falmouth's waterfront, the National Maritime Museum, Cornwall is dedicated to the county's inescapable links with the sea. As well as featuring many examples of boats, including traditional Cornish craft, the museum hosts regular exhibitions on all aspects of the sea and its exploration. The Museum has many interactive and hands on features, an excellent cafe overlooking the port and hosts children's activities throughout the school holidays.
Visitors can climb the "tower" for an unrivalled view of Falmouth and the Carrick Roads whilst a more murky view waits blow the waterline in the special sub-aqua viewing room at the tower's foot.
For details of admission prices and opening times, see the National Maritime Museum, Cornwall's Website.
Poldark Mine
A visit to Cornwall is not complete without gaining some knowledge of the county's mining past. Poldark Mine offers tours into a Cornish Tin Mine where you can learn of the tinner's working conditions first hand. Poldark also offers a variety of "hands on" activities including candle dipping and gold panning. For those made of stern stuff, the mine organises ghost tours periodically.
